Welcome to the Audi F1 Project.  
 
Audi will be competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026.  
 
The new team has three locations. Audi's Motorsport Competence Center in Neuburg (Germany) is considered one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. The Sauber Group's Formula 1 factory in Hinwil (Switzerland) is known for its innovative technologies and passion for racing. The Sauber Motorsport Technical Center, UK will be operational this year. Our Power Unit comes from Neuburg, while Hinwil is responsible for the development of the chassis and race operations.

This position for the Audi F1 Project is at Sauber in Hinwil (Switzerland).

Your mission

  • Develop the numerical and optimization methods at the core of our simulation tools, such as lap time simulation, DIL simulator, suspension simulation, and telemetry data analysis
  • Research, develop, and implement state-of-the-art simulation methodologies to aid in the optimization of vehicle performance and vehicle development
  • Optimize the source code for computational efficiency
  • Lead significant projects and mentor junior engineers
  • Define and implement automated model correlation and testing routines
  • Define and implement processes to ensure quality of released software
  • Contribute to the development of the vehicle physics model
  • Prepare documentation and presentations for software users and technical management

Your profile

  • Master's degree of PhD in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Significant experience developing simulation models and tools
  • Strong coding in C/C++ and good knowledge of C#, Python, Matlab, Simulink, and/or Modelica would be advantageous
  • Expert knowledge of numerical methods and optimization methodology
  • Expertise developing simulation software and solving computational engineering problems
  • Experience developing lap time simulation tools and DIL vehicle models would be advantageous, though not required
  • Strong background in many of the following areas: 
    • Optimization methods
    • Numerical methods and analysis 
    • Mathematical modelling and simulation
    • Simulation methodology development
    • Computational efficiency and accelerated computing
    • Nonlinear state estimation
  • Good understanding of physical mechanics, engineering dynamics, thermal science, and fluid dynamics would be beneficial
  • Highly self-motivated, dedicated, creative, result-oriented, and able to work independently with a very high attention to detail
  • Pragmatic with a distinct scientific approach at the same time
  • Highly stress-tolerant, capable of weighing and balancing competing priorities and short- vs long-term objectives while maintaining quality
  • Dedicated, persevering, open-minded, innovative, and a team-player
  • Proficiency in English language skills. German language skills will be an advantage
